What We Know:

Late 1970s:

  • Westinghouse sent him to Gijang County in Busan, South Korea, to work on the construction of the Kori 1 reactor.
  • He placed advertisements in Korean newspapers and potentially used government assistance to find his friend, Kim Jinho. 
  • When they reunited, Kim Jinho gifted him a handmade saw. The American was deeply moved because his father was a woodworker. We are unsure if this was his father's trade or a hobby.
  • He carried a photo of the two of them in his wallet for nearly 30 years.
  • He was a leader on the Kori 1 project, serving as a director or office head.  His position allowed him to invite Kim Jinho and his brother to tour the Kori 1 site.  While visiting, they enjoyed tea in his office. 
  • His busy schedule made it impossible for them to meet more than once.
  • Before returning to the USA, he tried to contact Kim Jinho to say goodbye and to gift him the appliances from his Korean apartment. Sadly, he was unable to reach Kim Jinho, and they never spoke or saw each other again.
